EXPLORER NIGHT AT BEARDEN HIGH SCHOOL!
Dear 8th Grade Parents:
We would like to invite you to attend an informational meeting at the Bearden High School auditorium on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 beginning at 6:00. The BHS Counseling Department will be present to explain how your child's Explore test results will be used in determining their high school placement. The counselors will also discuss  focused plan of study forms and give preliminary pre-registration information. Please bring your child's Explore test results with you to this meeting. Contact the WVMS front office or counseling department if you need an additional copy of your child's scores. 
The West Valley Middle School Science Fair!
The Science Fair will be held on February 14, 2012 in our lecture hall.
This will not be a graded project, but rather an opportunity for those students who enjoy this type of challenge to use their science skills. Students are not required to participate. Student projects are to be completed at home independently by the student.

You are invited to join other WVMS parents to discuss topics relevant to your teen or pre-teen.  Monthly lunch chats will be held in the lecture hall
at noon.  Please bring your lunch and a drink.  The scheduled topics are as follows:

WEST VALLEY RECYCLES


West Valley has joined the TerraCycle Recycle Brigade!  TerraCycle offers national programs (Brigades) to collect previously non-recyclable or hard to recycle waste.  The Brigades that WVMS participates in receives a donation for each piece of garbage that is collected.  Most wrappers/packaging is awarded a donation of $0.02 per piece.  Digital cameras and laptops may be rewarded up to $2.50 and $5.00 per item.  WVMS participates in the following Brigades:
  • empty candy wrappers (any size, any brand)
  • empty chip bags (any size, any brand)
  • empty gum packages (multipack bags, foil packs, exterior wrappers, etc)
  • empty juice drink pouches (Capri Sun, Kool-Aid, Honest Kids, etc)
  • empty/clean spread tubs (butter, margarine, cream cheese, etc)
  • empty tortilla or tostada packaging (any brand)
  • empty coffee bags (any brand)
  • clean/used "Ziploc" type bags and containers (any brand)
  • paper product plastic wrappers (paper towels, napkins, toilet paper, etc)
  • writing instruments (pens, mechanical pencils, markers, highlighters, etc)  NO WOODEN PENCILS
  • cell phones
  • digital cameras
  • laptops
  • MP3 players
  • inkjet cartridges

Register your Target card with Target's Take Charge of Education Program at www.target.com/tcoe.  WVMS will receive 1% of purchases made with the Target RedCard or the Target Visa card. 
Clip Box Tops logos found on hundreds of products and send to school with your child.  Each box top is worth 10 cents.  This year's goal is $1,415.
Each Tyson Project A+ label is worth 24 cents!  Just clip and send in the entire 1-2-3 A+ label found on participating Tyson products.  Please go to www.tyson.com/projectaplus for more information.
Go to www.mycokerewards.com to donate points found on Coke products.  WVMS can use these points to receive art supplies, PE equipment, and much more!
Office Depot will give WVMS 5% back on qualifying purchases!  When making a purchase at Office Depot, give the cashier WVMS's id number 70093047. 
With the Campbell's Labels for Education program, you can sign up and link your shopper's card (e.g. Kroger, Food City, etc.) and each participating product purchased earns 1-point to WVMS's Labels for Education account.  You can still clip and send in to WVMS the participating product UPCs to earn additional points for your school.  Go to www.labelsforeducation.com for participating products and linking your shopper cards.
On the first Tuesday of each month from 11 AM to closing, Chili's @ Pellissippi will donate 10% of sales when a WVMS flyer is presented.  Carryout orders are also included!  Please print out the Chili's flyer listed under the PTSA documents below and present to your Chili's server.
Under Project Classroom, Prestige Cleaners will donate a percentage of retail sales revenue to individual schools each year.  To participate, write WVMS on the back of your Prestige receipt when picking up your dry cleaning and drop in the designated Project Classroom collection box.
